Prototyping in Adobe XD vs Axure RP

Overview

Produce an interactive prototype that accomplishes the goal of signing in or signing up for the fictional application, Appy.

By submitting your email address, Appy can determine if you are a new user or an existing customer and take you to the appropriate next steps. This method eliminates the need for a user to choose between log-in or sign-up.

Use the features available in each program to create a prototype that meets the requirement and highlight the strengths and weakness of each platform.

User Flow

Created in Axure, the pink boxes represent the screens that will be required to perform a sign-in/up for Appy. The Rhombus represents a call to the server.

Wireframe

Created in Illustrator and XD, I structure wireframes as trees so I can get a clear view of the journey from start to finish. This allows me to notice gaps in a pattern which can indicate missing screens.

Adobe XD

If you're familiar with Adobe products, you pretty much know how to use XD. It might not have all the bells and whistles but it gets the job done.

  • Truly, rapid prototyping
  • Repeat Grid
  • Content Injection
  • Prototype wiring
  • Uncluttered workspace

  • No conditional logic
  • Only full page animation
  • No sticky elements
  • No native code export
  • Not responsive or Adaptive.
  • No button states

Axure RP

Axure is a beast. It is a full featured wireframing and prototyping tool thats capable of making prototype interactions as shallow or as deep as needed.

Strengths

  • Flow chart tools
  • Event handling
  • Component level animation
  • Advanced conditional logic
  • Export Html, CSS, Javascript
  • Adaptive breakpoint layout

Limitations
